The $5 Product That Transformed My Skin

How I feel after writing the most clickbait title of all time:

But in all seriousness… I found a $5 product that completely changed my skin (for the absolute better) in a matter of days. It’s vitamin based, helps minimize pores, reduces and prevents breakouts, evens out skin tone, brightens and is cruelty, gluten, silicone, alcohol, nut, and oil free. Oh, and of course ~vegan~. So, what is this mystery product?

Drum roll pls…

The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

It’s not a drugstore product, but it is quite frankly cheaper than even those these days at $5.90, and isn’t full of the junk and chemicals that Clean & Clear, Olay etc… pump their products full of. It’s also available online through The Ordinary and Sephora (and maybe Amazon, at a weirdly high price).

I use the Niacinamide pretty much every single day, unless I did a harsh exfoliating mask earlier (or plan to later that evening). I use it in the mornings typically, since I don’t wear foundation day to day. Under concealer, this product goes on just fine. However, if you’re going to ply moisturizer, primer and a foundation on top of it- save it for the evenings. The Ordinary’s staff assured me that it’s gentle enough to use 2x a day, but I think once is more than enough.

I was beyond skeptical about this product after reading other people’s rave reviews; I just didn’t believe that at that price point, anything could make such a dramatic difference. It did, and it just goes to show what a scam the beauty industry really is. You don’t need to use $90 DrunkenElephantSundayRileyAlgenist products day to day. Don’t get me wrong, I like to throw in a pricey mask or moisturizer in, but the foundation of my skincare routine no longer revolve around $60+ products.
